We’re often asked if we also provide SEO service and the good news is we include in our Starter Package.
As you may already know, there are hundreds of factors that Google uses to determine website ranking so that’s not easy to get ranked well above your competitors in Google Search Result Page (SERP). This article will give a detail of what we can do to help our client fight to rank better than their competitors.
At CAMWP DEV, we always issue pricing quotes to clients saying we include “SEO Ready” in the Starter Package. So how are we doing to prove the product we delivered are fully search engine optimized?
Part 1: On Page SEO
We develop websites with SEO in mind so that our clients will not need to care so much on the on-page SEO mater. There is a number of factors we do to improve on-page SEO:
1. We Build Websites on top of WordPress
WordPress is known to be the most popular CMS for its support, security, flexibility, extendability, easy to use, and most importantly, the best for SEO.
Undoubtedly, WordPress is now the most popular CMS as, of the time of this writing, it covers almost 34% of the web.
The code structure, ease of use, top-notch security, mobile application support, and community support make WordPress meet what Google and other search engines expect.
Plugins like WordPress SEO, JetPack, W3 Total Cache, etc, are built to boost WordPress website ranking, most importantly, they all come with a free plan.
2. Mobile First
Google recently announced the mobile first indexing rolling out so that this workflow becomes our advantage over some of our competitors. Moreover, our previous launched websites were ready for the update.
4. Website Speed is Our Priority
To compress CSS, we use SASS to write and Compass to compile as a compressed source code before deploying to the server. Other than that, we either use W3 Total Cache plugin (Free) or WP Rocket (Premium) to help caches in various aspects, such as browser caching, database and object cache, CDN, and a lot more.
5. We Require Them to Have HTTPs
Early 2018 Google announced the deadline for sites that are not HTTPs. Since then, major browsers like Google Chrome and Firefox have shown in their address bars as “Not secure” for websites that are not HTTPs.
At CAMWP DEV, all website projects will have HTTPs installed as default. We explained to our clients that having HTTPs will provide a few benefits. First is to help with SEO, and second is to gain trust in the eye of the visitors.
6. Use Only One H1 in Every Single Page
Headings tell Google how important the topic is on the whole single page. H1 determines the most important, then H2, H3, and so on.
For most of the projects we built, we recommend using only one H1 in the page which tells search engines the overall idea of what the page is about. Yet for Parallax templates or single page websites, using more than one H1 would be okay.
Never forget to add your keyword in your H1 title. It helps rank your keyword faster.
7. We Care About User Experience (UX)
Beside page speed, HTTPs, and Headings, User Experience (UX) is also one of the major ranking factors in the eye of Google.
As mentioned above, WordPress is the best CMS for user experience, easy to use for users and easy to develop for developers.
We meet with clients to discuss and sometimes advise them the layout for which it is going to be developed. We give them suggestion based upon user-friendliness, ease of navigation, branding color, and typography.
8. We Add Support for Twitter and Facebook Markups
This functionality hides behind the website but will show up when the link is shared on Facebook or Twitter. We do this in the background to make sure our clients are ready and happy for their social media marketing campaign.
9. We Add Their Websites to Our Analytics and Search Console Account
We do this to help our clients track their website traffic. We share analytics data from Google Analytics and the property information from the Google Search Console. In case of error occurs, we help them fix as soon as possible to make sure it won’t affect their SEO ranking.
Part 2: What Our Client Should Do on Their End (Off Page SEO)
As mentioned there are hundreds of factors that Google uses to rank a web page on top of one another. What we do above are not enough to ensure that the website we built will sit on top of the others in the SERP.
During and after the training, we always suggest our clients to focus on the following important factors:
1. Publish Article Regularly
Google and other search engines love fresh content. We recommend our clients to have a blog, articles, news, events or may be a promotion page so that they may publish content regularly.
As a developer responsibility, we add schema.org support by default to those blogging pages to help improve search engine visibility, and probably showing as featured snippet in Google SERP.
2. Write with SEO in mind
We won’t get traffic if we write about something people have less or no interest in. For example, I won’t get any traffic if I published an article about “What I have for dinner every Monday evening”, because no one cares what I’m eating. So do you!
There are a couple of things to focus when writing with SEO in mind.
- Keyword Research: We advise our clients to do a little bit of research on keywords of their niche before they start writing. Making a plan of keywords to write helps increase a chance to rank on top of their competitors.
- Search Intent: Search Intent simply means “The purpose behind the searcher’s query”. Doing only keyword research is good, yet it’s not enough, especially those who run online businesses. Some keywords may be good for ranking but may not be good to get people to buy.
- Keep It Simple (KIS) and Readable: We advise the clients to write content that is easy to read and as simple as possible. Sometimes we tell them to not care so much about grammar as people will find it harder to read. Passive voice, lengthy paragraphs, or multiple clauses paragraph should be avoided.
However, signs like brackets, numbers, dashes, … simply draw user attention. For example, “How to Boost SEO (in 9 Simple Steps) that works in 2019” should be an eye-catching title in the SERP. Isn’t it?
Other than that, we encourage them to use Yoast SEO plugin to help optimize for SEO faster and easier.
3. Earn Backlinks to the Site
Backlinks are like endorsement other websites vote for yours. The more backlinks you get, the more popular you are in the eyes of the search engines. However, links from the worst ones can discredit your website too. Luckily, Google has a tool to remove them from your backlink profile.
People tend to link to you when they think your content is good and will add value to their own ones. But first, you need to spread your content so that they know you exist.
4. Always Use Short, Descriptive URLs
We suggest using a short but descriptive URL. So when it gets linked somewhere as a raw URL, people will quickly understand what the linking page is about. The same to the eye of the search engines.
For example, https://camwp.dev/best-seo-agency-cambodia will be awesome.
5. Always Optimize for Images
Images play a very crucial role in optimizing for SEO. Image size, if possible, should not exceed 100KB. The file extension should briefly describe the purpose of the image and so does the Alt text.
One important thing to also remember is to never use an individual page for every image it links to. Because it will increase the search engine crawling budgets.
In Yoast SEO plugin, there’s a setting option “Media & attachment URLs” under the “Search Appearance => Media”, set it to YES.
6. Be Active on Social Media
Social media are places where lots of people present and they’re good for digital marketing.
We demand our clients be active on social media by posting quite often, joining groups of the same or similar niche, and gaining more audiences.
Sometimes traffics from social media can be profitable too. Most businesses rely mostly on social media like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or Pinterest.
Part 3: Wait to See the Result
Working on SEO requires patience. We need to wait at least 3 to 6 months to see the improvement, especially the newly developed ones.
